A safe place for my reveries

A personal and loving God

Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions; I will put them into practice with all my heart. Make me walk along the path of your commands, for that is where my happiness is found. Give me eagerness for your laws rather than a love for money! Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through your Word. Reassure me of your promise, made to those who fear you. Help me abandon my shameful ways; for your regulations are good. I long to obey your commandments! Renew my life with your goodness. -Psalm 119:33-40

And what’s even more, His regulations and law is not the old law of the Old Testament, but rather the new law of the New Testament. It’s a law of love and grace; we can now come boldly and confidently into His presence (Eph. 3:12).

Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call Him, “Abba, Father.” For His spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share His glory, we must also share his suffering. -Romans 8:12-17

If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it.

A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.

He’s more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.
